Maria Laach
Welcome to the largest nature reserve in Rhineland-Palatinate! Here in the east of the Volcanic Eifel, between the Rhine, Moselle and Ahr, you will find the Laacher See. The lake, which is around 3.3 square kilometres in size, is not the certified favourite lake in our state for nothing, as it is used as a tourist recreation area in summer.
10,000 years ago the volcanoes were still active, today this landscape exudes a noticeable silence and serenity.
In summer in particular, bathers, sailors and hikers flock here.
You can reach the Laacher Seetal quickly and easily via the A61.
But you can also be impressed by the Laacher Seetal during the protection period from October to March. The Benedictine Abbey of Maria Laach is a monastery on the lake, which owns the Laacher See area.
The heart of the monastery complex, the six-towered basilica, is particularly impressive. Let yourself be inspired by this place and visit the Maria Laach monastery restaurant.
